Introduction
The concept for the Nocturne events began in 2007 with the inaugural Smithfield Nocturne which attracted over 5000 spectators to central London and was awarded for its innovation winning a Visit London Sports Tourism Award.
The Nocturne format creates a cycling festival around a creative race programme which culminates with an elite criterium featuring British and international professional cyclists. The events are designed to fully exploit the locations they are held in and courses are chosen that provide a unique sporting attraction as well as benefi ting the local community and businesses.
In 2008 the Salford Nocturne will be the first new addition to the calendar with more events planned in 2009 to develop The Nocturne Series across the UK.
Salford Nocturne
The Salford Nocturne will take place around the Lowry in Salford Quays on 30th August 2008 and will be part of the Salford Festival of Cycling.
Following the huge success of the British cycling team at the recent World Track Championships in Manchester the festival will take place shortly after the Beijing Olympics providing an opportunity to welcome home some of our Olympic stars.
The highlight of the race programme will be the elite criterium featuring the Best of British. Other events will include an Elite Women’s race, 2012 Olympic Challenge, Celebrity All Star Race, Corporate Challenge, Support Race and a roller race competition.
The course runs around the Lowry, along the canal in front of Old Trafford through the pedestrian areas of the Salford Quays complex. Beer tents, interactive displays, cycling demonstrations, trade stands will all create an exciting spectator experience.

Participation
There will be a number of events open to the public. Businesses can enter the corporate challenge, cycling enthusiasts can sign up for the support races and everyone can have a go at the roller racing competition.

You can watch the racing in style and enjoy some VIP treatment with the Nocturne hospitality packages. The hospitality enclosure will be situated in the Lowry bar overlooking the start / finish line with exlcusive access to the rider pit areas.
